Barbara Kingsolver is a successful American author and activist, born on April 8th, 1955 in Annapolis, Maryland. Her first novel, The Bean Trees, was published in 1988 and became an instant bestseller. Since then, she has written many critically acclaimed novels, including Animal Dreams, Pigs in Heaven, The Poisonwood Bible, and Flight Behavior.
Kingsolver’s work often focuses on social and environmental issues, and she has been a passionate advocate for protecting the natural world. She has won numerous literary awards, including the National Humanities Medal in 2000 and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize in 2011.
Apart from writing, Kingsolver is also an accomplished scientist. She earned degrees in biology and ecology and worked as a science writer before devoting herself to literary pursuits full-time.
Kingsolver is married to Steven Hopp, and they have two daughters. They divide their time between their family farm in Virginia and Tucson, Arizona.
